Tuna melt grilled sandwich with melted cheese and tuna filling on toasted bread

Tuna Melt Grilled Sandwiches

A classic comfort food — creamy tuna salad layered with melted cheese and grilled to golden perfection between slices of bread. Perfect for lunch, dinner, or a quick satisfying snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 5 oz / 140 g cans tuna, drained
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard optional
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped onion or green onion
  • 1 stalk celery finely diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices bread sourdough or sandwich bread
  • 8 slices cheese cheddar, Swiss, or American
  • 2 tbsp butter softened

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Fork or spoon
  • Skillet or griddle
  • Spatula
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine tuna, mayonnaise, mustard, onion, celery, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Lay out bread slices. Spread butter on one side of each slice.
  3. On the unbuttered side of four slices, layer tuna mixture and 2 slices of cheese. Top with remaining bread slices, buttered side out.
  4. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place sandwiches in the skillet and cook 3–4 minutes per side, until bread is golden and cheese has melted.
  5. Slice in half and serve warm.

Notes

Add sliced tomato or pickles for extra flavor.
Use Greek yogurt instead of mayo for a lighter version.
Great with a side of fries, soup, or salad.
