Ingredients

Biscuits Ingredients
  • 2 cups self-rising flour This will give the biscuits their beautiful rise.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar works wonderfully, but feel free to explore other varieties!
  • 1/2 cup cold butter This makes them flaky and delicious.
  • 3/4 cup milk Adds moisture and helps bind everything together.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the self-rising flour and shredded cheese, combining well to ensure the cheese is evenly distributed.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gradually add the milk, stirring gently until combined. Avoid overmixing; you want the dough to be slightly sticky.
  5. On a floured surface, turn out the dough and gently knead it two or three times until it comes together.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1 inch thick and cut into desired biscuit shapes using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
  7. Place the biscuits on a lined baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
  8. Remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly before devouring them warm!

Notes

Tips for perfecting: Use cold butter for flaky layers, don't overwork the dough, experiment with different cheeses, and brush with butter after baking for extra shine.
