- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, beat butter and ½ cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla extract and mix well.
- Gradually mix in flour and salt until a soft dough forms. Fold in nuts, if using.
- Scoop dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
- Bake 12–15 minutes, until edges are lightly golden but centers remain pale.
- Let cookies cool slightly, then roll in powdered sugar while still warm. Roll again after fully cooled for a snowy coating.
