Hawaiian Roll French Toast

A sweet, fluffy breakfast treat made with soft Hawaiian rolls, soaked in a rich custard, and cooked to golden perfection. Perfect for brunch or a special morning indulgence.

Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls sliced in half horizontally
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon optional
  • Butter or oil for cooking
  • Maple syrup powdered sugar, or fresh fruit, for serving

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Skillet or griddle
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  2. Dip each Hawaiian roll half into the custard mixture, coating both sides well.
  3. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or oil.
  4. Cook each roll 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.

Notes

For a richer flavor, soak the rolls in the custard for 1–2 minutes before cooking.
Can be baked in a 9x13-inch dish for a French toast casserole version.
Leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated in a skillet or toaster oven.
