Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 lb ground chicken Use fresh ground chicken for best flavor.
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice Freshly squeezed orange juice recommended.
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest Zest from the same oranges used for juice.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Use tamari for gluten-free.
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Mixed with water to thicken the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil For cooking the chicken.
Vegetables
  • 1 bell pepper thinly sliced Any color bell pepper works.
  • 1 cup broccoli florets Fresh or frozen broccoli.
  • 2 green onions sliced For garnish.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds For garnish.

Method

Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the cooking oil.
  2. Add the ground chicken, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Toss in the sliced bell pepper and broccoli florets, cooking for another 3-4 minutes until the veggies are tender but still crisp.
  4. In a bowl, combine orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and honey. Pour the mixture over the cooked chicken and vegetables in the skillet.
  5. Stir in the cornstarch-water mixture and allow the sauce to simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
  6. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve hot over rice or noodles, and enjoy!

Notes

For a lighter or vegetarian version, use ground turkey or plant-based ground meat. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month. Add a splash of water or orange juice when reheating to keep it moist.
