Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar The star of the show!
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter For that rich, creamy texture.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Adds depth and richness.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract A hint of flavor to elevate the sauce.
  • Pinch salt Optional for salted caramel version.

Method

Preparation
  1. Before you begin, measure out all your ingredients. Having everything ready will help the process go smoothly.
Cooking
  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula until it melts and turns a deep amber color. This process usually takes about 4 to 5 minutes. Be careful not to let it burn!
  2. Once the sugar has melted, add the unsalted butter. The mixture will bubble vigorously, so be cautious. Stir until the butter is completely melted and incorporated.
  3. Gradually pour in the heavy cream, continuing to stir. The mixture will bubble up again, but keep stirring until it is well combined and smooth.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt (if using). Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes before transferring it into a glass jar to store or using it right away.
  5. Let it cool to room temperature, and it will thicken slightly. Enjoy your Classic Caramel Sauce over various desserts!

Notes

Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Reheat gently before use.
