Cheese Bread

Soft, fluffy bread loaded with melty cheese — perfect as a side for soups, pasta, or enjoyed on its own.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups 375 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup 240 ml warm milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • cups shredded cheese cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix
  • 1 egg for egg wash, optional

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or dough whisk
  • Loaf pan (9x5 inches) or baking sheet
  • Oven

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic (or 5–6 minutes in a stand mixer).
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Punch down dough and knead in 1 cup of shredded cheese.
  6. Shape into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan (or form into a round loaf on a baking sheet).
  7. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush loaf with beaten egg if desired, then sprinkle remaining ½ cup cheese on top.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.
  10. Cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

Try mixing in herbs like rosemary, parsley, or chives for extra flavor.
Works well with a variety of cheeses — experiment with gouda, parmesan, or pepper jack.
Bread can be frozen after baking; reheat in the oven before serving.
