Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3-4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced About 2 pounds total
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • a pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup water (optional for blending)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the sweet potatoes into thin rounds (about 1/4-inch thick for even cooking).
Making the Syrup
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until it forms a smooth syrup. If you prefer a bit more moisture, add the optional 1/2 cup of water.
Layering and Baking
  1. In a greased baking dish, arrange a layer of sweet potato slices. Pour a portion of the syrup over the potatoes. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with the syrup on top.
  2. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and have absorbed most of the syrup.
Serving
  1. Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your scrumptious Candied Sweet Potatoes!
