Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup apple cider (preferably fresh) Use fresh apple cider for the best flavor.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Half is used in the batter and half for the topping.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Topping
  • ½ cup granulated sugar mixed with 1 tbsp ground cinnamon Coat donuts with this mixture while they are still warm.

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease your donut pan.
  2. Boil the apple cider in a small saucepan over medium heat until it reduces to about ¼ cup, then set it aside to cool.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together your flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, combine the egg, melted butter, and reduced apple cider.
  5. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  6. Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each mold approximately ¾ full.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the donuts comes out clean.
  2. Allow the donuts to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the pan.
  3. Finally, coat each donut with the cinnamon-sugar mixture while they’re still warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days, or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the microwave for a few seconds to enjoy the fresh-baked taste.
