In a recent statement delivered to the press, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer criticized President Trump, Elon Musk, and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for exposing government waste, fraud, and abuse. Schumer argued against using a “meat axe” approach to spending cuts, suggesting a more cautious approach.
For context, almost as soon as he started his second term, President Donald Trump prioritized reducing government spending and waste. Instead of applauding this intelligent move, liberals have complained constantly about DOGE and Trump.
Returning to Schumer, he complained about DOGE and its aggressive stance on fraud. He began, “There is wasteful spending in government that needs to be cut. Do you agree with those in that sense? Of course, there’s some wasteful spending, but you don’t use a meat ax and cut everything. We need to look at each program.”
Schumer kept saying he wasn’t protecting corruption but couldn’t think of anything he would have cut. He added, “We need to go through Congress and see what’s wasteful and move to eliminate it, and what’s very not wasteful but very much needed. I’ll give you one example. They went after community health centers in Medicaid.”
He ended his remarks by complaining more, saying, “They’re among the most efficient producers of health care we have yet. They tried to eliminate them. It makes no sense. They’re just using a meat ax and cutting everything, including many things that American families need, want, and approve of.”
Chuck Schumer’s arguments are oddly similar to those. Pamela Brown, a CNN anchor, used to argue with Tim Burchett (R-TN). She began her remarks by complaining about DOGE. She said, “A professor at the University of Maryland, Don Kettle, who specializes in the civil service, told The Washington Post that, yes, the government is likely full of wasteful bloat, but said a clumsy fix is worse than no fix at all.”
She continued to explain, saying, “It’s like going to a meat market, getting a piece of steak, and trying to cut out the fat with a sledgehammer. That would only make a mess of the meat. Do you think, Congressman, that is a fair point, that the way this is being done is clumsy rather than methodical?”

The Tennessee Republican answered quickly and expressed his annoyance with the network. He said, “Again, you’re … attacking the message. [You don’t care about] the results. You talk about nuclear secrets. You had a nuclear person who was in charge of nuclear secrets, a man who dressed up as a woman, [who] would go into the airport and steal women’s luggage. [He] was overseeing those nuclear secrets under the Biden administration, and I never heard y’all say a peep about that again. ”
Despite more interruptions from the host, Representative Burchett continued to hammer away. He continued, “Then why are y’all not exposing it? Have y’all even talked about… Mozambique? We sent them ten million for circumcisions. I mean, goodness gracious, ma’am. Americans … have… been covering salaries. Where [is] the money going? All y’all do is run down Elon Musk and Donald Trump, and you continuously do this, and that’s why your ratings are in the tank, ma’am.”
